What started on the East Coast is rapidly spreading out west. The Chiropractic Stroke Awareness Group (CSAG) is expanding its chiropractic-stroke awareness campaign to states such as Colorado, Arizona, and California.
In particular, CSAG is running its television ads in Phoenix, as well as placing advertisements in the city’s local Yellow Pages, providing recommendations on locating responsible chiropractors in an effort to raise the professional standards that consumers expect from today’s health care providers.
The advertisements are not anti-chiropractic. "Our purpose is to ensure that people nationwide know there are risks before they go to a chiropractor so they can make informed decisions," said Britt Harwe, Founder of CSAG. "We think the risk of stroke, permanent disability and even death from a simple chiropractic manipulation is worthy of warning the public.”
Chiropractic industry leaders have expressed their concerns that such warnings to the public about certain chiropractic manipulations may keep potential patients away.
"The public's health should matter more than a chiropractor's bottom line," Harwe said.
