DC Awarded Prize for Best Paper at Symposium
Arizona-based chiropractor Chris Colloca, DC, founder
of Neuromechanical Innovations, and his research team were awarded a $500
cash prize for their research paper at the Fourth International Symposium
on the Philosophy, Art, and Science of Chiropractic. The event was hosted
by the International Chiropractors Association (ICA) in Madrid, Spain.
The paper, titled “Altered Spinal Motion Patterns
and Neurophysiological Responses Associated With Intervertebral Disk
Degeneration During Chiropractic Adjustments,” demonstrated
differences in vertebral motions among different forces and speeds, and the
beneficial effects of faster (impulsive) adjustments in creating more
vertebral motions among individuals with degenerated disks. The paper also
demonstrated the decreased stabilizing ability of the spinal musculature in
individuals with degenerated disks.
The research was supported by grants from Chiropractic
Biophysics Nonprofit Inc and from the Dr William Harris Foundation for the
Advancement of Chiropractic Education, which donated $25,000 per year
toward the research.
Chiropractic Campaign Gets Positive Results
The Foundation for Chiropractic Progress (F4CP), a
nonprofit organization dedicated to increasing the public’s awareness
of the benefits of chiropractic, announced that the initial run of its
year-long educational advertorial campaign, which was published in national
publications, including Newsweek, US News and World Report, Sports Illustrated, and BusinessWeek, has received an overwhelming positive response. The
campaign included a full-page advertorial featuring spokesperson Sarah
Harding, winner of the Ms Fitness USA title.
“Sarah Harding is ideal for this position, having
earned the title Ms Fitness USA partially as the result of a dynamic
fitness routine which showcased her physical strength, flexibility, and
endurance,” says Kent Greenawalt, president of F4CP.
