The recent failure of US Senate bill S 1955 is
another example of what the chiropractic profession can do when it joins
forces as a team.
The bill would have
allowed small businesses to band together to offer workers scaled-back
health insurance. But the bill also would have allowed insurers to bypass
state requirements that they cover services such as mammograms, childhood
physicals, and chiropractic care. Chiropractic associations and other
groups believed that the bill would have left millions of patients
without crucial health care benefits.
Chiropractors need to join forces better so that
chiropractic’s acceptance as a vital health care profession can
continue to grow. The profession can do great things as a team. For
example, according to one American Chiropractic Association report, after S
1955 was introduced in the Senate, some Senate office personnel
complained that their offices’ fax machines were jammed due to the
volume of messages received from members of the chiropractic profession
demanding their senators vote against the bill.
