ACA Honors Academician of the Year
The American Chiropractic Association (ACA) has tapped Norman W. Kettner, DC, DACBR, as its 2005 “Academician of the Year.”

 Norman W. Kettner, DC, DACBR

Since 2001, Kettner has led Logan College of Chiropractic’s (Chesterfield, Mo) research partnership with the Athinoula A. Martinos Center for Functional and Structural Neuroimaging at Massachusetts General Hospital. The research focuses on studies of acupuncture and pain processing, using functional magnetic resonance imaging.

Kettner coauthored a report on a study completed within the research partnership that appeared in the March 2005 issue of Human Brain Mapping (“Effects of Electroacupuncture versus Manual Acupuncture on the Human Brain as Measured by fMRI”). He also presented research at the 27th Annual International Conference of the IEEE Engineering in Medicine and Biology Society; at the 2005 Conference on the Biology of Manual Therapies; and at the joint conference of the US National Institutes of Health and the Canadian Institutes of Health Research.

Kettner received his doctor of chiropractic degree from Logan College of Chiropractic in 1980 and joined the college faculty the same year. He is also past president of the American Chiropractic College of Radiology.

Children’s Chiropractic Center Announces Have-a-Heart Campaign 2006
Oklahaven Children’s Chiropractic Center in Oklahoma City, Okla, has kicked off Have-a-Heart 2006. The campaign, sponsored annually by Oklahaven, educates the public about the benefits of children’s chiropractic.

“Oklahaven has been serving these children for more than 43 years through chiropractic,” says Bobby Doscher, DC, president and CEO of Oklahaven Children’s Chiropractic Center. “Chiropractic helps children by returning the life force to balance their sensory perceptions. Thus, the children grow into their optimal potential. The children are our future.”

Throughout Valentine’s Week, from February 13–17, 2006, Oklahaven’s hearts will decorate chiropractic offices and colleges all around the world to spread awareness that severely hurt children are more than a label describing their afflictions.

Participating in the campaign is easy. Oklahaven urges DCs to participate by showing Oklahaven’s video or DVD to their staff and patients while they are in the waiting room to educate them about the benefits of chiropractic for children and about success stories of the more severely challenged children.
