Perry Isenberg, vice president of marketing, Performance Health Inc, Export, Penn

Perry Isenberg, vice president of marketing for Performance Health Inc, Export, Penn, talks to Chiropractic Products about the products and services it offers to chiropractors.

What trends do you see in the areas of health and wellness?
The information age has ignited a trend for health care professionals to partly act as “coaches,” counseling their patients through the treatment process. This is largely due to patients taking a proactive approach to their health and well-being, as resources such as the Internet easily provide a wealth of information that was not accessible just a few years ago. Patients are now armed with information to question—and even challenge—their health professionals regarding condition and treatment options. This is a positive trend, because patients’ increased knowledge can allow health professionals to empower their patients to take responsibility for their health. Often, this can be accomplished by providing the patient with the power of knowledge and tools, such as health and wellness products.

What are the different types of products and services you offer?
Biofreeze, our flagship product, is a topical pain reliever that helps to relieve aches and pains commonly found in the lower back, neck, shoulder, knee, and joints. It is available in personal and professional sizes as tubes, roll-ons, and now, as a convenient spray bottle with the addition of our new Cryospray. Prossage Heat is a new therapeutic, soft-tissue-warming ointment that is specially formulated for deep tissue work, myofascial release, and trigger-point therapy; it is also available in different sizes.

The success of our quality products is exceeded only by our commitment to be a leading company that provides educational resources for health care professionals, students, and patients. For example, we have implemented a Patient Education Program, and we have sponsored industry speakers to present their state-of-the-art techniques of treatment and practice-building at seminars and schools nationwide.

What do your products offer that would make you different from your competitors?
The original formula of Biofreeze with ILEX was developed more than 14 years ago. It has been imitated but never duplicated, and it is the most widely used topical pain reliever by chiropractors and other health care professionals to relieve pain associated with sore muscles and joints. Our formulations are all blended to maximize the pain-relieving ability, without having to increase any additional specific ingredients.

Cryospray, our newest Biofreeze family member, offers a convenient spray applicator with a 360-degree nozzle, which allows patients to spray those hard-to-reach shoulder and back areas. Plus, its unique blend of 100-percent natural extracts and essential oils aid in the absorption of the healing properties and can reduce inflammation. There is nothing else like this spray formulation on the market today.

Tell us about your commitment to the chiropractic profession.
Performance Health has maintained a long-standing relationship with the chiropractic profession, with a major focus on education, patient care, and practice-building. For example, we work closely with chiropractors to develop protocols that can be taught at schools and seminars, with the goal of developing innovative techniques that can be incorporated into their practices. Annually, we contribute in excess of $200,000 to various sponsorships, chiropractic associations, and scholarship programs to continually foster the growth of the profession. Another program we pioneered, the Patient Education Program, or PEP, empowers chiropractors to educate their patients regarding treatment solutions in-between office visits. This program not only educates patients, but it is ideal for building and maintaining chiropractors’ practices, as they can distribute professionally printed brochures and product samples that include their practice names and phone numbers. Best of all, the PEP is completely complimentary. CP
