Biofreeze Honors Richard Kieffer, DC
At the Northwestern College of Chiropractic Homecoming in Orlando, Fla, Biofreeze/Performance Health Inc honored Richard Kieffer, DC, with its 2005 Humanitarian Award.

An alumnus from Northwestern since 1951, Kieffer practiced chiropractic for almost 50 years until his retirement. He is an active volunteer in his community church and with the Meals on Wheels program.

In addition to the award, Kieffer received a $500 check to be donated to two of his favorite charities: Dakota Boys and Girls Ranch, and Hope International.


 ICA Names Chiropractorof the Year
The International Chiropractors Association (ICA) has chosen Michael S. McLean, DC, of Virginia Beach, Va, as its 2005 Chiropractor of the Year for his service to the ICA and to the chiropractic profession.

McLean has served many leadership positions in the ICA during the past 2 decades, including ICA assembly representative for Virginia, a member of the ICA Board of Directors, chair of ICA’s Legislative Committee, and ICA representative to the Chiropractic Coalition.

A 1974 graduate of Palmer College of Chiropractic in Davenport, Iowa, McLean has volunteered for numerous professional and community organizations. He is the founder and past president of the Hampton Roads Chiropractic Association, a founder and past president of the Virginia Society of Chiropractic, and chairman of the ICA Political Action Committee.

McLean was also one of six DCs from across the nation to serve on the US Department of Veterans Affairs Chiropractic Advisory Committee in 2002.


 Northwestern Hires Health Program Chair
Northwestern Health Sciences University in Bloomington, Minn, has hired Kevin McCarthy, DC, DACBO, as the new chair of the university’s Integrative Health and Wellness program.

“Students need to be able to see that they could absolutely take the skills they learn here and use them in the workplace,”McCarthy says. “My biggest goal is to make sure we develop a program that resonates so people who are looking at it say, ‘That makes sense.’ ”

The founder of Metanoic Dialogue–Chiropractic Dialogue (a consulting and training organization), McCarthy has been a faculty member in the Integrative Health and Wellness program since September 2004 and brings to Northwestern nearly 2 decades of teaching experience. He has also served as the vice president of educational and clinical development for the Palmer University system.
