ABCA Names New President
The American Black Chiropractic Association (ABCA) elected Fadairo Afolabi-Rowland, DC, as its president during its national convention in Las Vegas in October 2004.

 Fadairo Afolabi-Rowland, DC

Afolabi-Rowland is the first black woman to graduate from the University of Bridgeport College of Chiropractic. She has an extensive science background, and she received her bachelor’s and master’s degrees from William Paterson College in Wayne, NJ.

Currently, Afolabi-Rowland is a holistic chiropractor who practices in New Jersey and is the author of many articles on the benefits of chiropractic. Having lectured across the United States, Afolabi-Rowland is an active leader in helping minorities understand the role they must play in the welfare of their own health.

“The uniqueness of chiropractic is that it offers a natural approach to health and healing—an approach that we once had, we lost, and now need to reclaim,” Afolabi-Rowland says.

 WCA Partners With Make-A-Wish Foundation
The World Chiropractic Alliance (WCA) has chosen the Make-A-Wish® Foundation as the beneficiary of its biannual Children’s Health Day International events held around the world. It will work closely with the nonprofit organization to promote the community events organized by DCs and help grant the wishes of children who suffer from life-threatening medical conditions.

“The Children’s Health Day International events will bring the chiropractic message to a huge percentage of the population—people who care about the health and wellness of their children and families,” says Terry A. Rondberg, DC, WCA president. “We wanted to make sure these events also provided significant financial support to a universally respected charitable organization whose mission was compatible with chiropractic.”

The WCA selected the Make-A-Wish Foundation because of its outstanding record of generosity and compassion, having granted more than 127,000 wishes since its inception in 1980.

The WCA launched the Children’s Health Day International program last year to disseminate information about chiropractic and other health and wellness approaches to families with children. The event addresses issues such as vaccinations, backpack safety, drugs, asthma, smoking, childhood obesity, and chiropractic and subluxation correction; and features fund-raising activities and door-prize raffles.

For more information about the next Children’s Health Day International event, visit the World Chiropractic Alliance Web site, www.worldchiropracticalliance.org/children.

All donations raised will go to local chapters of the Make-A-Wish Foundation.

Palmer Faculty Member to Lead Chiropractic Delegation
Lisa Killinger, DC, a research and diagnosis and radiology faculty member at Palmer College of Chiropractic, Davenport, Iowa, has been appointed to lead a chiropractic delegation to South Africa through the People to People Ambassador Program to extend chiropractic care in various clinical settings.

“I encourage my fellow chiropractors to pursue this rare and exciting opportunity, Killinger says. “Delegates can play a role in defining the themes for discussion, and will be able to both share and gain insights through the exchange.”

On this trip, which is scheduled for October 16–25, the group will visit Johannesburg, Kruger National Park, and Cape Town to discuss chiropractic education, clinical training, and research. They will also discuss the AIDS epidemic and the role that chiropractors play to enhance patients’ quality of life.

Chiropractors interested in the delegation to South Africa may contact Lisa Killinger at (877) 787-2000 or lisa.killinger@palmer.edu.   Program details and registration forms are available online at www.ambassadorprograms.org.
