2004 CE Programs
Noromed Inc announces the 2004 schedule of continuing education (CE) seminars. Noromed sponsors high-quality CE programs featuring clinicians and lecturers who are experts in their respective fields. Twelve hours of CE credit has been applied for through The National University of Health Sciences for both of these courses. (Inquire if this course is approved in your state.)

“Outcome Assessment of the VSC” is presented by Mark van Hemert, DC, DACS, on April 17–18, New York, and October 30–31, Chicago. Objective documentation of the medical necessity of treatment and patient outcome is increasingly required from health care providers by insurance companies. This course presents scientifically valid and reliable outcome measures to document the appropriateness and efficacy of chiropractic care as well as practical techniques on how to excel in personal injury claims, testimony and documentation. In addition, attendees learn how to substantially increase medical/legal referrals and how to effectively file for medical claims.

“Surface Electromyography—Applications in Clinical Practice” is presented by Jeffery Cram, PhD, on March 27–28, Chicago, and October 9–10, Atlanta. Patients with pain-related soft tissue injuries are often a challenge to evaluate and treat. This course begins with the basics to give a thorough understanding of surface EMG and dynamic range of motion evaluation techniques. The emphasis is on clinical applications for quick and conclusive diagnosis of musculoskeletal dysfunction and pain syndromes. No prior experience with sEMG is required.

Patented Orthotics Line
Foot Levelers Inc offers Extreme Orthotics line with the patented Gait Cycle System® and types to suit any lifestyle.

The Extreme version of the patented Gait Cycle System (or GCSX) is a characteristic of the Extreme orthotic family. At heel strike, a heel pad made of Zorbacel® provides shock protection. In midstance, a supporting layer of StanceGuard™ throughout the orthotic provides firmness, flexibility, and control. Then, Propacel™ under the forefoot returns springy energy to help propulsion and reduce fatigue. The four Extreme styles are: 1) Extreme™ XS: XS stands for Extra Smart. It incorporates the IntelliTemp™ and Dryz™ materials. IntelliTemp keeps feet warm in winter and cool in summer. Dryz wicks perspiration away from the foot, neutralizes odor, and kills bacteria and fungi. 2) Extreme™ XT: XT means extra tough. It has a durable leather top ideal for sudden twisting and turning required by sports. 3) Extreme™ XC: XC brings extra comfort. Its soft TechCel™ top has extra cushiony comfort. 4) Extreme™ XE: XE means extra energy. LBP Back Seat
The Saunders Group Inc introduces the Back Seat®, their latest innovation in low back pain treatment and prevention.

The patented Back Seat combines an adjustable back support with rigid side panels. When the wearer sits down, the side panels support the weight of the upper body to unload the lumbar spine by nearly 70%. The side panels can be removed when not needed, so the Back Seat doubles as a regular back support. The Back Seat also features an adjustable lumbar support pad to help maintain lordosis in the seated position.

The Back Seat features include: improved sitting tolerance, decreased effects of gravity on the spine, decreased time away from work, and pressure relief in the sitting position.

J. Troy Gray, inventor, is confident that this unique back support will be well received by both clinicians and patients. “Sitting tolerance is one of the most difficult problems with back pain, especially in chronic cases,” Gray said. “The Back Seat has enabled some people to sit more than 10 times longer than they could before—this is a breakthrough that significantly affects their working and social lives.”

Boundary Training CE Courses
ChiroCredit.com announces gender and sensitivity (boundary training) courses for continuing education credit. The courses are instructed by Angelica Redleaf, DC, author of the book, Behind Closed Doors: Gender, Sexuality and Touch in the Doctor/Patient Relationship, which received critical acclaim from Journal of the American Medical Association, the Journal of the American Psychiatric Association, and noted authors such as Bernie Siegel, MD, and Peter Rutter, MD. The courses are offered in 1-hour increments and there are a total of 12 hours available.

“The material presented in this course is not only informative but the ultimate goal is for the practitioner to build towards creating a Patient Protection Protocol™ to use in their office,” said Paul Powers, DC, site editor of www.chirocredit.com. “Complaints regarding boundary issues are among the most prevalent that Chiropractic Board of Examiners hear today. This is an excellent program which will allow practitioners to take a proactive step in avoiding complaints in this very important area as well as learning to provide the safest care possible.”

Redleaf states, “This is a topic which goes relatively untouched during graduate studies as well as during postgraduate studies. Unfortunately, most chiropractors do not start learning about boundary training until after a complaint has been filed against them. At that point, it may be too late to avoid having a permanent effect on the chiropractor's license as well as harming a patient, which is the last thing we want to do.”

All courses on the ChiroCredit.com Web site are sponsored by the University of Bridgeport College of Chiropractic and are approved in the vast majority of states for chiropractic continuing education credits.
