Cholesterol Lowering Tea Extract
Douglas Laboratories offers the Thea-Stat®, which lowers cholesterol. A recent clinical trial published in the June 23, 2003, Archives of Internal Medicine, shows clear evidence that the theaflavin-enriched tea extract lowers cholesterol.
Cholesterol levels of 240 men and women were studied to determine the effect of the theaflavin-enriched tea extract. After 12 weeks, participants taking this special tea extract experienced significant reductions in total cholesterol (11.3%) and LDL cholesterol (16.4%), compared to a placebo.
Standardized to contain 20% theaflavins and 40% catechins, Thea-Stat is manufactured through a controlled fermentation process of green tea leaves creating oxidation to a portion of the catechin components present in the green tea and linked to a family of compounds called theaflavins.
Theaflavins are typically found in black tea and help provide the tea with its characteristic color and taste. The outcome of the green tea fermentation process is an extract that is high in both theaflavins and catechins.
