Life West Grants DC Degrees
Life Chiropractic College Wests 42nd commencement awarded doctor of chiropractic degrees to 77 students and honored two esteemed professors. On June 7 at the Chabot College Performing Arts Center in Hayward, Calif, Life West granted diplomas to students from 14 states and 10 foreign countries, including Canada, Chile, China, Columbia, Finland, France, Italy, Slovenia, Taiwan, and Vietnam. The top academic honors were given to winter 2003 class valedictorian Eric J. Rubin of Chicago and the spring 2003 valedictorian, Melissa Miller of Boulder, Colo.
The graduating classes requested Life Wests dean of the Health Center, Scott Donaldson, DC, as the commencement speaker. Donaldson has worked at Life West since 1993 as a professor, chair, associate dean, and finally as dean of the health center. Additionally, Life West celebrated recently retired professor James Konlande, PhD. He received the Presidential Citation from Life West President Gerald Clum, DC, and a long ovation from the graduates and audience.

Many Reasons for Celebration at Sherman College
Sherman College of Straight Chiropractic, Spartanburg, SC, celebrated its 30th anniversary with an original sculpture of its founder and first president Thomas A. Gelardi, DC, and the opening of its new Scallon Building Atrium on May 22. The sculpture unveiling and atrium dedication accompanied Sherman Colleges continuing education event, the Lyceum. The 4-day event featured seminars for alumni and other chiropractors, fireworks, and a motivational presentation by Chicken Soup for the Soul author Mark Victor Hansen.
Gelardi founded Sherman College in 1973 and led the schools advancement for nearly three decades. He served as Sherman College's first president until 1996 and served on the Board of Trustees from 1997 to 2003. The sculpture, situated at the new buildings front entrance, is a gift from supporter Fumio Kaku, DC and the Japan Specific Chiropractic Association and honors Gelardis commitment to straight chiropractic.

Biofreeze Scholarships Given to six Students
The maker of Biofreeze Pain Relieving Products, Performance Health, Export, Penn, awarded Biofreeze Scholarships to six students of the Logan College of Chiropractic, Chesterfield, Mo, on June 6. Classmates nominated three student recipients for the First Trimester Scholarships, and clinicians nominated three other student recipients for the Student Health Clinic Category. The First Trimester winners are Claire Jeffrey, Marissa Holmes, and Dawn Bailey. The Student Health Clinic winners are Kelly Minnicucci, Mayur Reshamwala, and Margaret Koszylko.

AHC Conference Takes Care of Businesses
The Association for the History of Chiropractic (AHC) held its 23rd annual Conference on Chiropractic History in conjunction with the Research Agenda Conference (RAC) and the annual meeting of the Association of Chiropractic Colleges (ACC). The AHC Conference, hosted by the Omni Royal Hotel in New Orleans on March 15, presented nine original papers, bestowed awards, announced the publication of its newest book, and acknowledged the support of its eight corporate sponsors.
The AHCs annual prize for the best paper was presented to Steve Troyanovich, DC, and Russell Gibbons for their investigation of the career of Solon M. Langworthy, DC. It also gave Kenneth Padgett, DC, its Lee-Homewood Chiropractic Heritage Award for his lifetime contributions to the profession. The conference also announced the publication of A Profession Persecuted: The History of Chiropractic in New Jersey by Leonard Vernon.
National Chiropractic Mutual Insurance Co Inc, American Chiropractic Association, Association of Chiropractic Colleges, Breakthrough Coaching, Life University, Foot Levelers Inc, Hessco, and the University of Natural Healing Arts were also recognized for their support and financial contributions.
The AHC is a nonprofit membership society founded at Spears Hospital in Denver in 1980. Their mission is the discovery, dissemination, and preservation of the saga of chiropractic.
