Perry Isenberg, vice president of marketing, Performance Health Inc, Export, Pa, makers of Biofreeze
Chiropractic Products speaks with Perry Isenberg, vice president of marketing of Performance Health Inc, Export, Pa, about his companys commitment and involvement in the chiropractic profession. Performance Health Inc manufactures BiofreezeŽ, a therapeutic rehabilitation tool used in many DC practices and also offered in secondary profit centers.
How can chiropractors use Biofreeze to enhance treatment, while increasing patient compliance of the home self-care routine?
Chiropractors can use Biofreeze to enhance various modalities. Prior to ultrasounds, massage Biofreeze into the affected area. This dual modality (internal heat with external cool) is effective to treat muscle spasms and soft tissue injury. It can also be used pre-adjustment to relax difficult-to-adjust patients, and postadjustment to reduce swelling. DCs should give Biofreeze to their patients for at-home use for rehab exercises and as part of a pain management program to help reduce stiffness and pain for patient compliance. Patients with upper and lower back pain, arthritis, muscle strains and spasms, and sore joints will benefit. The deep penetrating pain relief will last for hours after the first application and can be used up to 4 times per day.
In what ways can Biofreeze be implemented into secondary profit?
Since patients cannot purchase the product at a retail store, DCs can offer the product to their patients, thus creating passive revenue. Patients will return to buy more and refer other potential patients. Chiropractors are also reassured that patients will have access to the quality product that was recommended.
What is unique about Biofreeze?
Biofreeze contains ilex, an herbal extract from a South American holly shrub used around the world in various health and wellness formulations. Biofreeze also uses 100% natural menthol, but does not use waxes, oils, fillers, or petroleum. It is not tested on animals, is non-greasy, and does not leave stains on clothing.
What is the history of Biofreeze and Performance Health Inc?
Biofreeze was originally developed by an international botanical chemist, who was looking to relieve his 92-year-old grandmother of her arthritic joint pain. His brother, who was a missionary in South America, told him about the ilex extract. He found that using ilex in the gel actually enhanced and extended the sensation of cold longer than other topicals on the market.
In 1991, the principals ,Craig Cox, Chris Cox, and myself, incorporated under the name of Performance Health Inc to market Biofreeze, and today, has more than 50 employees and several distributors in the United States and international export markets. Hard work, commitment to employees, and a superior product has helped Performance Health grow and become successful.
Tell us about Performance Healths commitment to the chiropractic profession.
More than 12 years ago, Biofreeze made its first appearance at a chiropractic association tradeshow, armed with not much more than a few cases of the new product. The profession embraced and believed in the product and helped us grow. We are proud to be endorsed by the California Chiropractic Association, the Florida Chiropractic Association, Pro-Sport Chiropractic Association and are a proud contributor to the Foundation for Chiropractic Education and Research. Our commitment to the chiropractic profession is second to none. Our involvement has been in the form of sponsorships, scholarships, and research efforts.
What do you see for the future of Chiropractic?
The day is coming for chiropractors to be recognized as primary health care providers and when the chiropractic profession will no longer have to fight in the legal and legislative arenas for the recognition they deserve as effective, results driven health care providers. CP
