Foot and Ankle Rehabilitation
Kelly Kinetics offers the Ankle Isolator, which uses a patented footplate isolation channel. The channel is biomechanically engineered to allow for precise placement of the resistive weighted column directly over the insertion of specific musculature for precise strengthening. The clinician can selectively load or unload specific muscles of the lower leg for strengthening by adjusting the placement of the weight column along the isolation channel. This isolation channel concept combines with the resistive torsion feeling produced by the levered, weighted column that is placed distal to the foot.
The isolator can be used for post injury or preventive strengthening, stretching, or manipulation and rehabilitation of the whole lower extremity. The pictured manual and a quick reference isolation slide rule illustrates how to customize protocols for conditions such as plantar fasciitis, Achilles tendonitis, and tibialis posterior conditions. The non-weighted bearing design accommodates users from subacute patients to fully functional athletes. The weighted column can be adjusted in ½-lb increments for various stages of rehabilitation. The unit also comes with a snap-in pediatric block to accommodate children and adults with small feet.

The integral database of Ortelius800 compiles a patient log and provides tools for monitoring patient status, including deformity progression graphs. Body balance, which is assessed by recording specific body landmarks, may be analyzed to aid clinical decision-making as well as pre- and postoperative assessment.

Decompression Therapy
Adagen Medical International introduces the ABS System, a nonsurgical approach to the relief of lower back pain through decompression therapy. Clinical studies have shown vertebral decompression to be an effective treatment of disc herniation, disc degeneration, facet syndrome, and sciatica. The ABS Systems treatment program involves the application of distraction forces to spinal structures in a graduated manner. Distraction is offset by cycles of partial relaxation. Negative pressure within the disc is maintained throughout the treatment session. Over time, the negative pressure promotes the diffusion of water, oxygen, and nutrients into the disc, helping the disc to heal itself.
The patients table, decompression device, built-in stereo system, and touch-tone screen, are all part of the ABS System. The patient table includes pelvic and chest harnesses secure the patient to the machine during treatment sessions. The decompression device delivers four different decompression programs. Its vertical movement allows the clinician to target a specific segment of the spine for treatment. The built-in stereo system with headphones offers soothing music to promote relaxation during treatment sessions. The touch-tone screen is used both to enter patient treatment data and to monitor the treatment while it is in progress.
