Life West Club Reaches Out to the Community
The Life West Community Outreach Cub is a true win-win for the community, students, and chiropractic profession. The club is made up of students who want to teach and share their passion about health care and chiropractic to visiting schools, youth organizations, and colleges. Each presentation is customized to the visiting group.
We have been known to host a first-grade class on Tuesday and then a college anatomy class on the following Thursday, said the club advisor and Life West public relations manager Jonathan Lance.
The presentations are created for the age and interests of the visiting group. Younger children learn about good health habits and basic anatomy through games and models. The high school and college visitors (usually anatomy and physiology classes) come to observe anatomy and pathology labs. All presentations finish with a chiropractic philosophy talk, led by the club members. For most visitors, this is the first time they have heard a detailed presentation about chiropractic.
A regular visiting group are classes from Western Career College, which specializes in training health care assistants. Our students benefited greatly from viewing the cadavers and organs, said Western Career College instructor Lynn Woolley, RN, PHN. Your knowledgeable students shared pertinent information regarding each specimen and allowed us to explore and ask questions. This all added great meaning to our lectures and study of the human body. What a valuable experience for us all.
The club provides a learning opportunity about chiropractic for Bay Area schools and youth organizations and students and offers public speaking and lecture opportunities for Life West students.

Parker President Accepts Humanitarian Accolade
In August, Fabrizio Mancini, DC, president of Parker College of Chiropractic in Dallas, was recognized for enriching and inspiring others.
Heroes for Humanity, a Dallas-based company, named Mancini a hero and featured his story on its website, www.heroesforhumanity.com. He joins a list that includes Katie Couric for her work in spreading the word out about colon cancer, Michael J. Fox, and Christopher Reeve. Mancini is the first person in the chiropractic profession to receive this honor.
I feel very honored to be chosen as one of the heroes along with so many great names. I hope this helps spread the word about chiropractic, Mancini said. This honor is not an individual award, but an honor for all chiropractors who everyday are heroes to their patients.
Mancini came to the United States as a 12-year-old native Colombian who could not speak any English. Through the help of several personal heroes, Mancini became a doctor of chiropractic at the age of 24. His mentor, James Parker, DC, taught him to love your patients like your family.
At the age 36, he is one of the youngest college presidents in the United States.
Mancini has been instrumental in helping to spread the word about chiropractic care to the younger generation. He conceptualized Parker Kids Club and helped bring Kids Day America/International to the Parker College campus.
Mancini is dynamic and charismatic. He cares so much for other people, said Laurel Barrett, CEO and founder of Heroes for Humanity.
The for-profit organization Heroes for Humanity works to empower people, deliver avenues for humanitarian outreach, and inspire leadership. Its website and books feature those with extraordinary achievements in areas such as the arts, athletics, politics, business, academics, entertainment, and philanthropy.
